Butcher & Blackbird (film)

Chris McKay is directing Brynne Weaver’s serial-killer romance, from a script by Laura Kosann. A current casting call says it is shooting in upstate New York and asks for stand-ins for Thomas Doherty and lead Emma Laird. That points to the leads, but it’s reported, not announced. Haunting Adeline (film)

H. D. Carlton confirmed in July 2026 that a film is in development, and that she chose a film over a series so nothing would be cut. No cast, studio or date. Haunting Adeline movie news.

Lights Out (Netflix series)

Netflix is developing Navessa Allen’s masked-stalker romcom, with Hannah Schneider as showrunner. Allen has read the screenplay. No cast or date. Lights Out Netflix news.

Twisted Love (Netflix series)

Netflix optioned Ana Huang’s Twisted series in January 2025. Huang received the pilot script on 6 October 2026. No cast, and she says any cast list not announced by her or Netflix is false. Twisted Love Netflix news.

The Poison Daughter (Hulu series)

Hulu and 20th Television are developing Sheila Masterson’s dark enemies-to-lovers romantasy, and are looking for a writer. (Deadline, 3 Aug 2026) The Poison Daughter: spice and darkness.

Why now?

BookTok sells these books by the million, and studios have clocked it. The tricky bit is the content. Carlton has said no streamer would show Haunting Adeline without cutting it, which is why it’s a film. Expect every one of these to get softened somewhere. The books, thankfully, stay exactly as dark as they are.
