Last updated:
Navessa Allen’s masked-stalker romcom is heading to Netflix. Here’s everything that’s actually been confirmed so far, and everything that hasn’t.
Is Lights Out coming to Netflix?
Yes. Deadline reported on 11 February 2026 that a Lights Out series is in development at Netflix. Hannah Schneider (Why Women Kill, Accused, The Waterfront) is the showrunner, writer and executive producer. Peter Chernin and Tracey Cook of Chernin Entertainment are executive producers, and so is Navessa Allen. (Deadline, 11 Feb 2026)
Is there a script?
Yes. In a 28 July Instagram video, Allen said she had read the screenplay and called it “so hot and so funny”. (TV Insider)
Who is in the cast?
Nobody yet. Netflix hasn’t said who’ll play Aly or Josh. TikTok is full of fan casts, and not one of them is official.
When is the release date?
Not announced. It’s still in development.
What is Lights Out about?
Aly is a trauma nurse. Josh is a masked vigilante hacker who breaks into her house, and suddenly her darkest fantasy isn’t just a fantasy any more. It is book 1 of Into Darkness, first published in 2024. On our scales it is Spice 4 and Dark 3: closer to a dark romcom than a no-light read. Spice and warnings for Lights Out. Josh has his own character guide.
The Into Darkness books
- Lights Out (2024), Aly and Josh
- Caught Up (2025), Lauren and Nico
- Game On (2026), Stella and Tyler
- The order and what changes between books is in our Into Darkness reading order.
Trigger warnings
Lights Out’s warnings include sexual assault, dub-con and breath play. The full list is on the Lights Out warnings page.
